Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School Efforts in Lamberton

The City of Lamberton, Red Rock Central Schools, and community members are working together to ensure that all routes to school—whether by bike, on foot, or by car—are safe for our students.

In 2023–2024, Red Rock Central was awarded a Safe Routes to School Boost Grant through the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), which helped strengthen efforts to promote safe and active transportation for students. Following that success, the City of Lamberton received a Safe Routes to School Planning Grant.

This planning grant funded a detailed study that examined how students currently travel to school, the routes they use, and the condition of the sidewalks, streets, and signage along the way. The findings from this study are helping guide next steps, including the City’s application for a Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Grant in fall 2025. If awarded, this grant will allow us to begin implementing needed improvements identified in the plan.

In the meantime, the City will begin working on what improvements it can as resources allow. We are committed to making our community more walkable and bike-friendly and look forward to encouraging more students to safely walk and bike to school.

The SWRDC was in charge of helping put all the parts together and developing the SRTS Plan.  The plan has been linked below for your viewing.
